This Saturday morning I am going to be making waffles out as Seaside, Florida (this is where The Truman Show was filmed). Here's the deal, there is this chick, Jen, who owns a juice bar in an Airstream trailer, called Raw & Juicy & they are celebrating their 1-year anniversary this Saturday. During the summer she normally has a farmers market set up around the trailer, along with other vendors who sell things likes sprouts, handmade bags, baked goods, preserves, eggs, etc. This week for the celebration Jen wanted to have fresh waffles, so she called me! I am really excited about it!
Here is my quandary, I eat waffles the plain old way, with butter & syrup. I don't add any toppings, I am a purist if you will. So, my question is: What do you eat on your waffles? I don't want to take a whole ton of toppings, maybe just three or so. Please help me figure out the most popular toppings for waffles! Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks!

I like peanut butter!
Personally, I go for the straightforward approach as well. But, I did have caramelized bananas and pecans on waffles once, which was decadent and delicious.
peanut butter, huh? no butter, just peanut butter. i have never had that, but it sounds yummy.
caramalized bananas sound wonderful!
i just made the chocolate brownie walnut waffles (not really the name, i don't think) from veganomicon. i used whole wheat flour instead of white. they are delicious, but they are falling apart...any suggestions?
I like to make a berry syrup (any berries will work) - but I'll take frozen blueberries or raspberries, simmer them with sugar and a little water, perhaps even a splash of lemon or lime juice; similar to a tart filling but without the thickener like cornstarch or arrowroot.
I also like the PB idea! Or even something simple like a dusting of powdered/confectioner's sugar.

i was thinking about some berries for sure...they would be good on both the plain waffles & the chocolate ones. thanks for the suggestions, sara.
i added a little more flour to the batter last night & cooked a little longer & they held together much better. still tender, but not falling apart...tender is good!
i say go classic, maple syrup, berries, powdered sugar, maybe a few candied nuts?
I like maple syrup and strawberries! I'm a simple gal.
